A Vision for a Sustainable Paradise

When I first visited the 10 acres along Bonita Creek that would become the nursery 30 years ago, I already knew it was paradise.

The creek and the oak trees and the birds captured my heart and I knew I had found home.

For me, growing fruit trees began as a way to feed my beautiful exotic birds. Over time, it has become about helping others to experience that same connection to place, that same feeling of comfort and security and wonder that I feel on the land. When we grow our own food, the beauty and power of the natural spaces we all call home really support us in the most basic, meaningful ways.

I have a vision of creating a space where people from all over San Diego can experience first hand the incredible abundance of nature. The incredible variety of foods we can grow– from the drought tolerant ice cream bean tree and jujube, to the purple mango, to apples and other northern fruits that have been especially adapted to San Diego.

I dream of a place where we can all learn to grow food. A place where we can preserve cultivars of plants that are delicious, easy to grow, adaptable and beautiful. From this park and the adjacent nursery, we’ll donate trees to communities throughout Southern California and into Mexico, to create communities that are connected to nature and resilient to change.

Come join us to learn and grow.
